Broncos duo Corey Parker and Justin Hodges are the new co-captains of the Brisbane rugby league side.
The change was publicly announced at Red Hill today following second-rower Sam Thaiday’s move to step aside from his two year tenure as leader.
“I can’t stress enough the excitement that’s within us now to progress forward,” Parker said.
“I’m very thankful for the Broncos giving us the opportunity.”
Loose forward Parker’s offsider and co-captain Justin Hodges, who’s played football with Parker since he was twelve years old, was equally optimistic.
“Our time’s right for me and Corey to step up and hopefully bring our great club back to where it should be.”
Coach Anthony Griffin emphasised the respect outgoing skipper Sam Thaiday had within the club, describing his decision to stand down as captain as “brave” and “for the good of the team.”
The Broncos finished eighth and twelfth on the NRL ladder in the past two seasons.
2006 was the last year the Brisbane club won an NRL Premiership title.
With the key off-season signing of ex-Bulldogs fullback Ben Barba and the impending return of Queensland and test winger Jharal Yow Yeh, expectations will run high and scrutiny will apply in the club’s twenty-sixth season.
