The position of hookers in NRL Fantasy is very important with them posting some of the best scores in the game. Unfortunately we can only pick two of them and there is many ways to approach them. I am going to say it right now one of your hookers has to be Cameron Smith or “God”, anytime you are reading any of my NRL Fantasy blogs and you see the reference “God” it is Cameron Smith and the reason is he is simply a God in the game.

So with one hooker down you only have one more to pick, you can approach this final pick in 3 different ways:
1. Pick another gun to partner Smith
2. Pick a player of difference (POD). Which is a player you have that not many others will pick.
3. Pick a cheap player who will gain you money a “cash cow”.

Starting with point number 1 of picking another gun to partner Smith. For me in the hooker position, I see three fantasy guns, Cameron Smith, Robbie Farah and Issac Luke. If you are going for a gun to partner with Smith it comes down to Robbie Farah ($483,700) and Issac Luke ($357,900). For me I would select Issac Luke for the cheaper price, and that he is a much better bye schedule than Farah and will not be playing State of Origin.

On to point number two of picking a POD. There will be a lot of mid range price players who won’t be selected by many as a lot of coaches will be picking either a gun or a cash cow. My three players to watch as a POD are Andrew McCullough ($362,800) who has the potential to post big scores if he can get the long minutes but rookie hooker Jake Granville will be pushing to get in there and I can see him limiting McCullough’s minutes. Jake Friend ($354,500) is another POD to watch for me, he is another player than can score big, but I can see Trent Robinson doing the same thing as last year and giving him little breaks in games and putting Daniel Mortimer on the field. Mitch Rein ($291,300) is my final POD to watch, Rein again is another player who can post big, but will also be most likely not play the 80mins with rookie Craig Garvey expected to get a spot on the bench.  I think all these three are good fantasy players and have the ability to post big scores but for me it comes down to will any of them play the 80mins.

Onto the final point know of cash cows. These are players you bring in cheap and hope to see them make you the money. I have picked out three of them to watch they include Adam Clydsdale (117,800), Clydsdale will most likely start the season off the bench but could find himself in the starting side if injuries occur. My second player is Craig Garvey (107,000), like Clydsdale, Garvey will most likely find himself on the bench for the start of the season but again could find himself starting if injury’s might occur. My final player(s) and I say player(s) because theres a few who could get the spot, it is the Cowboys number 9. There is a few players in the running Cameron King ($157,600), Anthony Mitchell ($127,100) and Rory Kostjasyn ($185,300). Scott Moore could also get the spot but if he does I wouldn’t go near him as we found out last year he is not a great point scorer in Fantasy.

At the moment I have gone with Issac Luke to partner Cameron Smith in my side, as I know he is a great point scorer he is a good price and has an excellent bye schedule. Things could change though if I see a POD who will be playing 80mins or if I see injuries come in to play and a cash cow getting promoted to a starting spot.

I am also looking to set up a league for the readers of this blog, make sure you give me a follow on twitter @97Sharkey which should have a direct button up the top and just give me a message if use are interested and I will look at setting one up.
