A Cronulla side missing almost half of its first grade squad were comprehensively beaten by a clinical Bulldogs side at ANZ Stadium.
The Sharks were outclassed in all facets of the game on Monday night and they will be sweating on the return of key playmaker Todd Carney, otherwise they could find themselves fighting to stay off the bottom of the ladder just weeks into the 2014 competition.
Canterbury dominated the first half of the match scoring their first try of the night in just the 5th minute and managed to post 24 unanswered points before half time , to lead a wounded Sharks side 24-0.
The Bulldogs showed no signs of easing up in the second half , scoring just 7 minutes into the second half.
The Bulldogs scored another two tries before the Sharks finally gave the Cronulla faithful something to cheer about with a four pointer to close out a disappointing display from the boys in the black , white and blue.
Canterbury’s 42-4 thrashing of the Sharks kicks starts their 2014 campaign in the best possible way whereas for the Sharks a heap of improvement is needed before their clash with the Dragons next week.
