Two desperate teams in North Queensland and Newcastle battle it out in Monday night football at 1300 Smile Stadium.
Paul Green has stuck with the same seventeen that went down 13-12 against the Gold Coast Titans last Monday night. After winning the inaugural Nines tournament, the Cowboys are facing a fourth straight defeat. Once again there’s a heavy reliance on Johnathan Thurston to get the side home. There will be increasing pressure on Michael Morgan at the back as Zac Santo is waiting in the wings to play regular NRL.
Newcastle on the other hand are coming off an emotional charged victory over Cronulla last Sunday. They too are unchanged line-up for the trip to Townsville. The Knights have the tryscoring capability to test the Cowboys. Expect Akuila Uate, James McManus and Dane Gagai to throw everything at the Cowboys in attack.
Such an emotional victory can be hard to backup. Having said that Wayne Bennett is a master coach and no side he puts out on the field is under prepared. In a game where there’s two big forward packs, it’s likely the back half of the game will open up and one of these teams run away with victory.
North Queensland should be able to get the two points here with Newcastle struggling to back up from last week.
