Brisbane Broncos 18 (D Copley, B Hunt, J McGuire tries; Corey Parker 3 goals)
Parramatta Eels 25 (W Hopoate, S Radradra, J Hayne, N Peats tries; Chris Sandow 4 goals, field goal)
The Parramatta Eels have continued their positive start to 2014 courtesy of a come from behind 25-18 win over an error prone Brisbane Broncos side at Suncorp Stadium in front of 32,009 fans.
Fast becoming the entertainers of the competition, the Eels side used their flair to score a try to take the lead in side of the final ten minutes, before maligned halfback Chris Sandow slotted home a field goal with six minutes to play to seal a seven point win for the away side.
The Broncos were their own worst enemies completing just 24 of 36 and missing a massive 42 tackles.
In contrast, the Eels made just eight mistakes and only missed a total of 17 tackles throughout the contest.
In their previous matches of the year, the Broncos has been able to jump out of the blocks early on, however the eels were staunch in defence, summed up by fullback Jarryd Hayne tapping the ball back into the field of play to save a forty twenty , before collecting the ball near the dead ball line and finding his way out of his own in goal to save a repeat set.
The Eels then put themselves on the score board when Ken Edwards poked through a hole before giving the ball to Sandow, who sprinted down field before passing to Will Hopoate who collected the ball despite it being knocked on by a Brisbane defender.
In the 35th minute of play, Hayne made a break down the left wing before passing to Semi Radradra, who ran half the field, including taking Broncos Full back Ben Barba for a ride for the last ten metres of the run, to extend the lead to 10-nil following the successful conversion from Sandow.
But on the stroke of half time, Brisbane got themselves back into the contest when Justin Hodges, ran from dummy half, causing the Eels defence to second guess themselves and leave Dale Copley an unmarked run to the try line to make the score at 6-10 at half time.
The Broncos than continued their come back ten minutes in to the second half when halfback Ben Hunt did it all himself, throwing a dummy and slipping through a tackle to find himself in space and over the line, with Parkers conversion giving the homeside the lead for the first time in the game.
It was short lived however, when the Eels scored off a set move from a scrum ten metres out from their attacking line, Hayne going over the stripe virtually untouched, thanks largely to a poor tackle attempt from Josh Hoffman.
The game see sawed again when a Hunt bomb was spilt by Ken Sio into the waiting arms of Josh McGuire, who scored under the posts, the conversion from parker giving the Broncos a two point lead.
The conversion allowed Parker to have a career tally of 1000 points for the Broncos, only the third Brisbane player to reach such a milestone.
It was the last time the home side would score in the match however, as the enthusiasm of the Eels allowed the travelling side to come home with a wet sail, Nathan Peats finding the try line from dummy half, before Sandow took the two points on offer following a penalty against Justin Hodges for taking out Jarryd Hayne as he tried to contest for a bomb.
And when Sandow slotted home the field goal in the 75th minute, the Eels were home, and into the NRL top eight.
