I can’t remember in recent times Panther fans being so passionate about retaining a player. Just after midday today, Rugby League Week’s The Mole broke the story that we are all waiting to hear.
IT’S OFFICIAL PEEPS… Josh Mansour to stay @PenrithPanthers – LOYALTY STILL COUNTS IN THIS GAME. 2 YEAR DEAL!
— The Mole (@RLW_Mole) June 3, 2014
Canberra seemed certain to win the signature of Sauce before a turn of events saw the announcement of a deal with the Raiders held off. On Friday night in one of his two tries against the Eels Mansour was lip-read by some supporters saying, “I’m not going”. This to me was Josh letting ‘the cat out of the bag’ about his future. Fans over the weekend bombarded Mansour’s twitter account saying a move to Canberra would end in disaster with Ricky Stuart as coach. I think Josh knew his best chance of winning a premiership lays with the Panthers and not in the nation’s capital.
As a fan I see it this way – Sauce has given up a big offer and as Moley said, “Loyalty still counts in this game”. We as fans need to continue to repay the loyalty and support the kid. I personally hope that J. Mansour is on Laurie Daley’s team sheet for Origin II in Sydney.
If Josh reads this, we’ll bring our voices to Robina on Saturday! Go out there and get ’em.
