As Sam Burgess reaches the end of his rugby league career his side, South Sydney Rabbitohs, are in prime position to finish in the top four and fight for the NRL Premiership title in honour of the forwards last season with the club.
A shoulder injury threatened to end his time at Souths early however, he has recovered and has been named in the team to face Manly in Round 22’s crucial match-up between the top two.
The bunnies started the season with a brilliant victory against rivals Sydney Rooster but then went on to lose their next three games leaving those who had tipped them for glory reconsidering if they had what it takes.
Since then they have lost just four more games and if they are to secure a minor premiership they will need a victory over leaders Manly who sit four points ahead of the Bunnies and who are favourites to go all the way in the finals.
Souths will be confident they can pick up enough points to stay in second spot despite their tough run home, as they go into the final five rounds with three straight wins under their belts having recovered from back to back defeats at the hands of the Cowboys and the Titans.
Rabbitohs will just miss out on top spot in my opinion however, I fully expect them to go on and secure second place and will tip them to appear in the Grand Final. As a Pom it would be great to see Sam crowned an NRL champion before he returns home to England in his cross-code switch.
