Head Coach Shaun Wane has named his 19 man squad for the Big One 5 on Friday against Leeds Rhinos.
The Warriors face the Rhinos with both sides looking to finish the season strongly and keep their place in the top four ahead of the Play Offs.
Wigan head into the game on the back of a draw and a defeat in their last two games. Shaun said: “We need to make sure we get out of it and there’s no better way to get out of it than a big game against Leeds at the DW Stadium on Friday.
“If we can finish fourth and win a Grand Final I’ll be happy with that but at the end of the day we just need to win these last two games against Leeds and Warrington. It’s a huge challenge for us as they’re both really good teams. I know on our day that we can challenge both teams, we’ve shown that at the Etihad against Leeds and with Warrington as well. We just need to find that form again and that bit of confidence.”
“It’s not been an easy week, an easy fortnight to be honest and we just want Friday to come as quickly as possible because we’ve got a great team coming to the DW and we seem to up our game when we’re in these positions.”
Shaun believes that the Wigan and Leeds fixtures have taken on added zest over the past few years: “They’re a good team and I do believe that the Wigan and Leeds fixture is just like a Wigan and Saints game now. There’s always fireworks, it’s always a feisty game and it means a lot to both teams. I’ve every respect for the Leeds club having played there for three years and I’m really looking forward to this one.”
On the Big One 5 event Shaun said: “I’m very proud what we have pulled together as a club and think as a sport we should do stuff like this more often, it promises to be a special night and I look forward to welcoming the legends players into the changing room to meet the lads. I think it’s good for them to meet people like this, it helps them understand more what it means to play for this club.”
The 19 man squad is: John Bateman, Matt Bowen, Josh Charnley, Tony Clubb, Dom Crosby, Gil Dudson, Liam Farrell, Ben Flower, Anthony Gelling, Blake Green, Jack Hughes, Dom Manfredi, Michael McIlorum, Sean O’Loughlin, Eddy Pettybourne, Sam Powell, Dan Sarginson, Matty Smith, Joel Tomkins
