New Zealand 14

Goals: Shaun Johnson 1/3

Samoa 12
Tries: Daniel Vidot, Joseph Leilua, Tautau Moga

New Zealand has scored a late try to beat Samoa 14-12 in their 4 Nations match at Toll Stadium, Whangarei today.

On a day where six tries were scored but only one was converted, Samoa again fought bravely and were unlucky to be denied after a fantastic team performance.

Samoa took the lead through Tautau Moga after just 4 minutes, but the home side hit back through
five eighth Kieran Foran, converted by Shaun Johnson for a 6-4 scoreline after 11 minutes.

A 17th-minute try to Samoan winger Daniel Vidot restored their lead and they took an 8-6 advantage into half time.

This lead was extended in the 43rd minute when Joseph Leilua scored, but again the try was unconverted and his side led 12-6.

In the 63rd minute Jason Nightingale got his side right back in the match, going over to score his second try of the tournament to make it 12-10.

Nightingale was in the action again with just 4 minutes left; his late offload caught the Samoan defence unawares and the ball was spread wide for Shaun Kenny-Dowall to touch down in the left corner. Johnson’s conversion was wide but New Zealand hung on for a hard-fought victory.
