The Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles have suffered a massive blow, with powerful winger Jorge Tafua suffering a knee injury at training that looks set to sideline him for up to eight weeks.
The winger was on the comeback from a shoulder injury and was hopeful of an early return but suffered a chondral lesion and is likely to miss the opening 8 weeks of the National Rugby League season.
Sea Eagles head coach Geoff Toovey tried to remain optimistic about the setback, with the club’s first game against the Parramatta Eels just three weeks away.
“Jorge was training sensationally after shoulder surgery and was on course for an early return, but this has put him back a fair bit,” Sea Eagles coach he told seaeagles.com.
“We’ve got a great medical team here at the Sea Eagles and while it’s disappointing, we know Jorge will be back fitter and stronger than ever when he eventually returns.”
He will undergo surgery on Monday and begin rehabilitation straight away.
