The South Sydney Rabbitohs are mourning the passing of premiership-winning legend Ivan Jones who passed away today after a lengthy illness.

Mr Jones, a halfback, played a total of 97 grade games for the Rabbitohs between 1965 and 1969, including 70 first grade matches. Mr Jones also played one game for Western Suburbs in 1970.

Mr Jones played against the St George Dragons in the 1965 Grand Final at the Sydney Cricket Ground, and won the Club’s 17th premiership in 1967 when the Rabbitohs defeated Canterbury-Bankstown at the SCG.

Mr Jones was awarded Life Membership of the South Sydney Football Club in 2002, worthy recognition of his contribution to the Club over many decades.

Mr Jones continued to live in South Sydney territory up until his passing, and is survived by his wife and his three daughters.

On behalf of everyone connected to the South Sydney Rabbitohs, we offer our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Ivan Jones at this difficult time.
