Despite the half-time score favouring the visitors by two points, Widnes Vikings put on the burners in the second period as they blew Bradford out of the water. Adrian Purtell started off the scoring for the hosts after 17 minutes but two tries from Joe Mellor and a lone score by Patrick Ah Van put the Vikings in the ascendancy. Omari Caro replied for Bradford with a minute of the first half remaining, a timely score for James Lowes’ side. Two tries in two second half minutes for Widnes really put the cat amongst the pigeons. Charly Runciman crossed the whitewash in the 48th minute before Mellor completed his hat-trick moments later. Hep Cahill, Ah Van, Rhys Hanbury and Kevin Brown all added four-pointers in the final quarter of the tie, rounding off a great day for the Vikings who took a big step towards Super League survival.
