Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have sacked Tim Smith for gross misconduct and bringing the club into disrepute after the scrum-half admitted to failing to provide a specimen following a car crash in Hull last month.

“A letter was last night sent to Tim Smith and his lawyer saying we were dismissing him for gross misconduct and bringing the club into disrepute,” Wakefield chairman Michael Carter said via the BBC.

The 30 year-old was also banned from driving for 28 months and hit with a £900 fine by Beverley Magistrates Court.

Kevin Locke, who was also in the car along with Smith and Reece Lynn, has also left the club. Lynn was suspended by the club but featured in Sunday’s defeat to Sheffield Eagles.
