Widnes head coach Denis Betts says he hopes to strengthen his side’s relationship with Newcastle Thunder.
The Vikings travelled to Kingston Park for a preseason trial game on Saturday and beat the League One side 34-8 in front of a crowd of over 1,200 spectators.
Betts told the Vikings’ official website: “One of the reasons we came up here is we’re trying to forge further links. It’s a great sporting area and we’re proud to be associated with Newcastle.”
St James’ Park will host the Magic Weekend this May for the second year running and Betts says it is an ideal opportunity to strengthen ties between the two clubs:
“We’re coming back up again in a few months for Magic, so we would like to continue to have a relationship with Thunder.
“I’ve been speaking to their new head coach, Mick Mantelli, and there’ll be links between the two clubs that go on.”
