Featherstone Rovers clawed their way back from 14-0 down to beat Dewsbury Rams by a single point thanks to a last minute Danny Craven drop goal. It took just one minute for the visitors to break the deadlock through the leading try-scorer in the Championship, Josh Guzdek. Ben Reynolds converted the try, and he also added a penalty goal later on in the half. Shane Grady extended the visitors’ lead in the final quarter of the first half as former Featherstone man Paul Sykes played the centre in. Reynolds converted again for 14-0. However, moments after Grady’s score, ex-Ram Kyle Briggs got Featherstone’s first try of the afternoon. He also added the extras. In the latter stages of the first period, Kyran Johnson cut the deficit further for the Rovers with a four pointer but Briggs couldn’t convert. Dewsbury led 14-10 going into half-time but their advantage was cut completely when Misi Taulapapa crossed the whitewash off the back of a number of penalties. Briggs couldn’t put his side into the lead as his conversion attempt was off. But the back-and-forth encounter continued in the same fashion as another former Featherstone player, Jason Crookes, got on the scoresheet for the visitors. Reynolds put one converted try between the sides as he tagged on the two points. Missed conversions were starting to play a big part in the game, especially after Scott Turner’s try for the hosts went unconverted and the Rams still held a slender two point lead. A penalty goal for the Rovers levelled matters on 72 minutes and then came the drop-goal attempts. Sykes tried his luck for Dewsbury but got his angles wrong and that allowed for Craven to slot over the all important one pointer in the final minute to snatch the spoils.
