Castleford host Salford in the 3.30 kick-off this afternoon, looking to bounce back from their narrow defeat to St Helens last week.

The Tigers went down to a 28-22 defeat last Friday, despite leading for a large portion of the contest. Salford are also looking to get back to winning ways today, after their loss in the last second against Warrington last Thursday.

The last time these two sides met at the Mend-a-Hose Jungle was March 2015 – Castleford took the two points on that occasion with 30-16 victory.

Justin Carney scored a brace for Daryl Powell’s men that time, but today he lines up against the Tigers for Salford in his first meeting with his old side.

Denny Solomona will look to continue his good vein of form for the home side this afternoon – he currently has six tries for the season, including a hat-trick against Hull FC two weeks ago.

Similarly, Salford’s Junior Sa’u has made a good start to the season. With five tries in five games, the centre could cause the opposition lots of problems in attack today.

In the last five meetings between these two sides, Castleford have secured four wins over their opponents. Salford’s only win in that time came in March 2014, when the Red Devils won 23-16.

A win for Castleford would see them close the gap on St Helens in fourth to just a point; victory for Salford will move them into fifth, leapfrogging their opponents today.
