The NSW women have won their first Origin to win the Nellie Doherty Cup in the Interstate Challenge (Origin) against QLD in the Gold Coast at CBUS Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

  1. NSW steal the win for the first time in 18 years

The NSW Blues girls have successfully defeated the QLD Maroon girls 8-4 at Cbus Stadium on the Gold Coast on Saturday afternoon. They were pumped and determined to end the losing streak and did so effectively. They came out firing with Maddie Studdon having a brilliant kicking game in the halves for the blues and Sammy Bremner doing a brilliant job from the back.

The NSW girls were first on the scoreboard with the first try of the game awarded to Simaima Taufa in the 55th minute and Maddie Studdon successfully converting to put NSW in the lead 6-0 for a majority of the game. QLD was very late to score in the 79th minute.

The girls were playing for the Nellie Doherty Cup and for the first time won it.

  1. NSW impress in defence

NSW did not let QLD score any points until the 79th minute after a really impressive effort in defence. They defended their line with confidence and skill which was evident as QLD struggled to get over to score points. The NSW Blues determination was visible after working hard to stop the QLDers from getting close to scoring.

Through this great defence, they were able to gain the title in this Interstate Challenge.

  1. Brave Bremner

Sammy Bremner got a high accidental shot from Annette Brander after her arm wrapped around Bremner’s shoulder which resulted in blood running down her face as she ran off the field. She was a trooper and managed to stand up after the brilliant metres she made before the knock to assist with NSW’s victory. Her commitment and effort after the incident were noted as she ran off after staying down for a couple of minutes.

We wish Bremner a speedy recovery!

  1. History happens with QLD being defeated by four points

QLD will not know how to feel after losing to NSW as they have not lost in the last 17 years of playing the Interstate Challenge. Hancock mentioned she wanted to walk away from the game if QLD lost but came out saying that she is more determined then ever to get ‘revenge’ after losing to the NSW Blues side.

A great job by NSW as they made history happen for defeating QLD on QLD turf in the Gold Coast by four points for the first time in 17 years. Congrats girls!
