Sheffield Eagles won their second match on the bounce with a 48-28 victory over Halifax at The Shay. Sheffield were 32-18 up at the break and it was Mark Aston’s men who broke the deadlock after three minutes courtesy of Scott Wheeldon. Cory Aston converted but Fax struck back in quick time through Luke Ambler. Adam Tangata and Quentin Laulu-Togagae exchanged tries for the hosts and visitors respectively with the score at 12-10 to Halifax on 15 minutes. The fast-paced intensity continued as Rob Worrincy and Gareth Moore both touched down before Adam Neal, Cory Aston and Stan Robin all crossed for Sheffield. With one minute left in the first period, Ben Heaton was sent to the sin-bin for holding down Sheffield winger Garry Lo for too long.
It was Lo who capitalised on the numerical advantage with a try in the 46th minute to extend his side’s lead to 38-16. Tangata and James Saltonstall notched consecutive tries for Fax heading into the final quarter, with the deficit cut to just eight points. However, Sheffield put the burners on with two tries in a row to seal an important victory which sees them go seven points clear of the relegation zone. Matt James and Lo scored within two minutes of each other as the visiting Eagles fans left The Shay in good spirits.
