1. Brisbane Broncos dominate to move through to the semi-final
The Brisbane Broncos have secured a spot in their next final after defeating the Gold Coast Titans in front of 43,000 fans at Suncorp Stadium. With a high scoring game 44-28, the Broncos needed to ensure to maintain possession, which they did at 54%.
Darius Boyd and Anthony Milford were impressive for the Broncos and between them both ran 325 metres throughout the game.
2. Farewell Nathan Friend
Nathan Friend has played his last game in style in a final going up against Brisbane Broncos. He has had a terrific career and will surely be missed by the boys at the Gold Coast. Unfortunately, he did not receive the fairy-tale send off by beating the Broncos but the Gold Coast Titans would be happy with their efforts of squeezing into finals in the top 8 spot.
3. Will Corey Parker and James Roberts go unpunished?
Corey Parker was caught head-butting Gold Coast prop Ryan James during a scrum. With high contact to the head, Parker may be in trouble before the Brisbane play their next finals match.
Parker’s teammate James Roberts was also found kicking a Titans forward Ryan Simpkins before playing the ball while he was lying out of the way to create space for the ball to be played. Roberts may also come under scrutiny if the NRL match review committee view the footage from this game.
4. The better team may have won but how much influence did the referees have?
Outrage poured over social media in particular Twitter after the referee’s made many controversial decisions. The main verdict that fans were gobsmacked about was when Corey Oates was deemed to put in a dangerous position by David Mead after Oates knocked the ball on. Both David Mead and Corey Oates clearly contested the high the ball and Titans were very unlucky with the call not going their way.
