Dewsbury Rams warmed up for their Championship Shield semi-final date with Bradford Bulls by beating Oldham 30-12 at the Tetley’s Stadium. The first action of note came when Oldham full back Richard Lepori was sin-binned for holding down in the tackle. Just a couple of minutes after Lepori’s fleeting departure to the sideline, Etu Uaisele broke the deadlock for the hosts and Tom Hemingway converted. Jason Crookes and Andy Kain both crossed the whitewash before half-time to give their side a 16-0 advantage.
In the second period, Oldham finally got off the mark when Kenny Hughes touched down in the 47th minute. Lewis Palfrey converted but Lucas Walshaw responded almost immediately to send the ball back into the Roughyeds court. Shane Grady added the extras before kicking a penalty goal to make it 24-6 to the Rams. Tempers flared in the opening minutes of the final quarter and Oldham winger Jamel Chisholm was shown a yellow card. The ensuing penalty saw Grady opt for two points and he was successful from the tee. Grady and Kieran Gill exchanged tries for Dewsbury and Oldham respectively as the game petered out in the dying embers.
