We are pleased to welcome utility back Alex Gaskell to the club.
Alex joins us from the Salford Red Devils’ academy and our head coach Lee Greenwood says he expects the 20-year-old to be pushing hard for a place in his 2017 team. Greenwood said: “We are really looking forward to seeing Alex in training and are happy that he has chosen to join us. He was one of a number of lads that left Salford recently and were looking for a club. We have spoken to people who know Alex and the reports we have had back, about his attitude and ability, are very promising. He can cover all the back positions, we would like him to come in and make one of those spots his own.”
Alex was born in Guildford before moving up north, beginning his league career at the famous amateur side of Orrell St James. Graduation to the Wigan Academy followed as did a spell at the Red Devils. Speaking ahead of the pre-season army training camp Gaskell said he’s looking forward to the challenges ahead. “I’m really looking forward to meeting my new teammates on Saturday and getting to know them”, said Gaskell.
“I chose to sign with the All Golds because I feel it is the best place for me to develop my game and improve. The club has some good coaches who can help me with that.
“My aims for 2017 are simple – to be playing regular first team rugby and to get better week by week. I’m happy to play anywhere but I’d say full-back is my strongest position. I can’t wait to get started.”
