UK bookmakers Betfred have taken over the sponsorship of the Rugby League Championship and League 1 for the next two seasons.
The deal aligns with the current arrangements that Betfred have with the premier competition Super League, a deal that ends in 2019.
The agreement ends Kingstone Press Cider’s association with the Championship which started in 2013. It was in an era where the Championship saw the introduction of Toulouse and Toronto and the return of promotion and relegation from Super League through the Million Pound Game.
Betfred co-owner Fred Done said: “Our first year as title sponsors of Super League was both a very successful and satisfying one for me and I had no hesitation in agreeing to extend our sponsorship to the Championship and League 1.”
The Betfred Championship kicks off on February 2 when Dewsbury Rams play host to Sheffield Eagles. Betfred League 1 starts on February 18 with Bradford Bulls, aiming for promotion, travel to York City for their opening game of the season.
