St Helens received a massive boost hours from their opening Super League fixture against Castleford Tigers by announcing a new contract for Alex Walmsley until the end of 2022.
Walmsley has been with the Saints since 2012 and appeared for the club on 138 occasions.
The English International was considering a move to the National Rugby League after an impressive Rugby League World Cup campaign caught the attention of several clubs, including St George-Illawarra Dragons.
This is excellent news for the Saints who are joint favourites to take out this year’s Super League title. There is no doubt that Walmsley will play a huge part in their 2018 success.
Head coach Justin Holbrook was delighted with Walmsley’s decision to stay in the Super League.
“Alex is not only a fantastic player but more importantly a tremendous person and the fact he has decided to extend his contract with us proves to our Club and the Community that he loves playing for St Helens.”, Holbrook told the SaintsRLFC.com website.
