The Forward Pass: What’s the Warriors’ New Jersey?

The fake news that’s actually fake.

The Warriors will wear their ‘AKL Sunset’ jersey for the Mt Smart Stadium double header against North Queensland on Saturday night (including the Wests Tigers v Melbourne Storm game), and give the commemorative ‘Warriors’ 500th’ jersey to fans.

“The ‘Warriors’ 500th’ is a combination of jerseys we’ve worn in the ARL/Super League/NRL since 1995. We put a poll on the website and asked fans what their favourite jerseys were, then mashed them together. It’s like a metal fan’s jacket with all the band patches on it,” Warriors coach Stephen Kearney said.

The jersey is coloured black, blue, red, green and white, with the fan-voted jersey designs across the chest and torso, the old Auckland Warriors logo and the number 500 above the Vodafone logo. The sleeves feature the red Southern Cross and Union Jack to represent the New Zealand flag.

Fans will receive a free ‘Warriors’ 500th’ jersey upon showing their tickets Saturday night. The jersey will be sold to the general public after the game online and in stores. The Warriors will wear the jersey later this season.

“I’m excited about the offer, who doesn’t love free stuff?’ Kearney said. “It gives our loyal fans first pick of this special new jersey and will hopefully encourage them to come along, give it to the Cowboys and celebrate our undefeated Warriors. They deserve a free gift after a rough few years.”
