Tyrone Roberts to Leave Wolves at End of Season

Warrington Wolves have confirmed that marquee player Tyrone Roberts will leave the club at the end of the season, less than 12 months after joining from the Gold Coast Titans.

The 27-year old joined on a three-year deal from the Titans prior to the start of the 2018 season, but has decided to activate a clause in his contract which allows him to return home at the end of the year.

Roberts has admitted that it has taken time to adapt to English life and, with his family suffering from homesickness, has decided to return to his native Australia. No decision has been made over where Roberts will play next year, although rumours appear to suggest that he could make a return to the Titans for the 2019 season.

Roberts said: “It’s been a tough decision, but my family and I have decided to take up the option to head home to Australia at the end of the season.

“Since moving here I’ve found it really tough to adapt and being so far away from family back home made it harder. My family and I have loved our time here in Warrington and we would like to thank the club and staff here for being so welcoming.

“I am 100% committed to the club and the boys and I are keen to bring a trophy home at the end of the season.”

Head coach Steve Price thanked Roberts for his contribution to the club and says that he understands why the decision has been made.

“I’ve been in regular contact with Tyrone as we have a really good working relationship; it’s just unfortunate that his family is homesick,” said Price.

“One thing I’m sure about with Tyrone is that he is fully committed to the Warrington Wolves for the rest of the year. I’m confident he’ll keep on improving and evolving as the season progresses. He has outlined to me personally that he’s determined to leave in a successful manner.”
