Hull FC suffered a miserable second half of the season, and there’s no shying away from that. Eleven straight defeats to close 2018 dashed any hope of a third successive play-off appearance. Whether it be injuries, players out of form or a mixture of both, the Airlie Birds couldn’t buy a win in the last three months of the campaign and will open 2019 having not won since June.
2018 Club Record
Competition Points: 22
2018 Player Achievements
Most Tries: Bureta Fariamo (17)
Most Points: Marc Sneyd (107)
Hull FC were ravaged by injuries in 2018, but despite this, coach Lee Radford questioned their ability and mentality in the closing weeks of the season. What is undeniable is that the club still possess great quality in players like Jamie Shaul, Marc Sneyd and Jake Connor, but to progress they must expel any mental weakness. Next year, a top five finish isn’t out of the question.
In terms of trophies, FC were denied a record third-consecutive Challenge Cup trophy after being knocked out by an in-form St Helens team in a thrilling quarter-final match that ended 25-22 to the league leaders.
However what came after was something the fans won’t want to forget in a hurry.
NothingButLeague Player of the Season – Jake Connor
Despite showing great promise, Jake Connor was sharp and showed a maturity and understanding of the game. Rewarded with a call-up in June to the England squad, he delivered again to shine on the test stage. A real star.
