Recap

HAYNE HEADLINE HERO

The boy from just down the road from Campbelltown Stadium has sunk the Wests Tigers and kept Gold Coast’s chances of playing finals footy in 2016 with a match winning field goal.

It’s a shot in the arm the Gold Coast needed.  With merchandise sales and crowd numbers on the rise finally the game will be boosted in the holiday strip.  Expect a huge crowd at Robina when they take on Penrith in a fortnight.

Playing with what appeared to be a shoulder and neck complaint his influence was remarkable in setting up a try out wide for Anthony Don along with the field goal right on full-time.

Good times for the Titans are coming!

TERRIBLE INJURY TO TEDESCO

If the full-time result wasn’t enough pain for the Tigers, it was the injury to James Tedesco which initially looks like a season ending one.

With an offside Ryan James rushing through to pressure the Tigers champion fullback on the hour, the Titan has copped Teddy high.  The result a suspected broken jaw and some loose teeth.

Devastating news for the in-form Tedesco playing at the top of his game.  More importantly does this signal the end of the Tigers hopes to make the finals?  It’s a tough run in with the Panthers (A), Warriors (A) and Raiders (H).

And what for Ryan James hit? Possibly a long stint on the sidelines.

TITANS DISCIPLINE MUST IMPROVE

There should be some cause for concern as the Titans continue to walk the top eight tightrope the amount of penalties they concede and the nature of the offence.

David Shillington is a respected rugby league player in the twilight of his career.  His decision to take out Mitchell Moses after he kicked was just plain stupid footy which gifted Jordan Rankin an easy penalty conversion.  What made matters worse was Greg Bird remonstrating with the officials.  It was clear as day to anyone that the Tigers deserved a penalty.

Ryan James will also be in some trouble for his heavy hit on James Tedesco.  The Titans conceding a 9-4 penalty count.

TIGERS DOMINATE EARLY BUT CAN’T CONVERT INTO POINTS

In front of their biggest crowd of the year at Campbelltown Stadium the Wests Tigers got off to a flying start to lead 8-0 after thirteen minutes of play.

With a wealth of possession inside their opponents twenty thanks to three line drop outs in the opening twenty minutes you would have expected the Tigers to convert field position into points.

It was Titans convert Jarryd Hayne who led the revival with an intercept off Mitchell Moses’ pass which led to Anthony Don’s first try.

This period of control was a missed opportunity as they went into the sheds 12-10 behind.

IN THE SHEDS

A heavy toll for both sides notably with James Tedesco for the Tigers with a suspected broken jaw and loose teeth.

The Titans fared worse.  Greg Bird came off with a shoulder problem early in the second half and Ashley Taylor struggled through most of the game with a groin problem.  Jarryd Hayne looked uncomfortable with a neck and shoulder problem.

Ryan James expected to be charge by the Match Review Committee
