PREVIEW

A mouth watering battle looms on the Sunshine Coast on Saturday afternoon between two sides who currently benefit well from feeder arrangements with NRL clubs. The Sunshine Coast Falcons who partner with Melbourne, drew with their Storm feeder counterparts Easts Tigers last weekend, and there is previous between these two sides and draws as Souths Logan and Sunshine Coast drew in 2016.

Souths Logan look to have the better side on paper, especially with a front row that have plenty of Broncos experience. In particular Joe Ofahengaue  who moved from Ipswich to Souths Logan just before the season started to be with his fellow Broncos fringe players at Davies Park.

Former NZ Warrior Kevin Locke has been named fullback amongst the Sunshine Coast Falcons big names, and the backup Eddie Tautali  has plenty also, if they both make the field on Saturday. One pick up from the Storm feeder program is former PNG Hunter Justin Olam who had a great Round 1 with a match high 196 metres from 18 runs.

Will there be more points scored in total between these two sides in Round 1 than their error and penalty totals? Sunshine Coast cored 7 points but conceded 11 Penalties and 12 errors. Souths Logan scored just 4 points but gave away 8 penalties and 17 errors.

It is only early days in 2017, and those questions and more are awaiting an answer from the Sunshine Coast Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

KEY BATTLE

The key battle is whether the Magpies Bronco heavy forward pack can get the momentum from the relatively lesser known Falcons pack. With the bigger names, all with an eye on a Brisbane NRL berth, it should be Souths Logan.
