Townsville Blackhawks v Mackay Cutters at Jack Manski Oval on Saturday, March 18 – 4pm
Townsville heads home for the first time this season and will run on to Jack Manski oval four hours before the Cowboys light up the stadium next door. It could be a painful Sunday for many fans but on the field the locals will be looking to extend their winning streak to three games, even with the loss of a couple of players moved up to cover injuries to the abovementioned Cowboys. The Cutters will head north after a strong win over Tweed Heads wiped away their first-round disappointment.
Who to Look Out for: Lock and Captain Dan Beasley returns for his first game this season and he will be looking to make his presence felt. A leader who runs hard (like all forwards who captain) will stamp his game as an example to show the way. The best thing about this, is it works. This line-up may be the side for a few rounds and so it will be important for Beasley to grab the team and set the tone for the season.
For the Cutters, they will be looking to Nicholas Hynes to continue his great work with both the boot and pass to set up the attack. His goal kicking is also in great form and he is the complete footballer and valuable for the Cutters.
How they will win:
The Cutters require to enter the field with the same level of confidence they ran off with at the end of last week’s game. Easy to say and less easy to do against a quality team like the Blackhawks. The early tries were scored out wide, but will this be a path of success against the experienced wings and centres.
For the Blackhawks, the team has now had two good games under their belt and will be tough to stop, especially at home. Expect quality distribution from Ant Mitchell to set up both attacks wide and in close as he exploits the gaps created by the quality pack of the Blackhawks.
Prediction: At home the Blackhawks will look to create a fortress Manski, just like the big brother does next door. Whilst the Cutters will be confident after a solid victory, the step up in class will more than likely be too big. Blackhawks by 8+.
