PREVIEW

By Matt Crowhurst

After four rounds the Blackhawks sit atop the 2017 Intrust Super Cup Premiership ladder and are deservedly the bookies second favourites at $5.50 to win the title, only behind the Redcliffe Dolphins. They opened their season with three comprehensive wins, over the Norths Devils, Ipswich Jets and Mackay Cutters before falling to the Benji Marshall inspired Dolphins last weekend. Along the way, they have scored 123 points while only conceding 72, giving them a healthy plus 50 points ‘For and Against’.

Coach Kristian Wolfe has the advantage of being able to name an unchanged, and strong line up, from last weekend. Four of the squad (Blake Leary, Kierran Moseley, Anthony Mitchell and Jonathon Reuben) have played NRL while Michael Parker-Walshe and Carlin Anderson are among a number who have been part of NRL systems.

Anderson is currently the competitions top point scorer and 5th highest try scorer. Thanks, in no small part to a massive 28-point haul (2 tries and 10 goals from as many attempts) against the Mackay Cutters in Round 3.

At home, nearly at full strength and smarting from last weekend’s loss they will be a fearsome prospect on Saturday afternoon.

The Tigers were slow to start their season, solid efforts in the opening two rounds were only rewarded with a single point. They got the wheels rolling in Round 3 against before getting the wheels rolling against the Dolphins in Round 3 and really hitting their straps last weekend in accounting for the Northern Pride 42-12.

Like his Blackhawks counterpart Tigers coach Scott Sipple has named an unchanged line up from last round. However, his line-up is more likely to change as Melbourne Storm players filter into the Tigers on Saturday morning.

Billy Walters was at his scheming best against the Pride and he, along with the Tigers forward pack, will need to be at their best again if they are to have any chance in Townsville.

I have tipped the Tigers but honestly not with too much confidence.

Odds:
Townsville $1.75, Tigers $2.75

Prediction:
