The Pride are home for the second week after clean-skinning the Bears and the Blackhawks will be looking to bounce back after blowing the lead in their home clash against the Easts Tigers.
Last Time Out:
The Blackhawks will head north with their wings clipped after a more desperate Tigers unit ran over them in the late stages of what was looking to be a close match. Three tries to Jonathon Reuben was not enough to nor was the 22-16 lead with 20 to go. So now they will need to remember that scoring is nice, but scoring more than your opponent is what wins the matches and go to Barlow Park looking to restore their rightful place near the top of the ladder.
For the Pride, Khan Ahwang scored all but four points as they downed the disappointing Bears. A Victory is always nice and they will look to back it up over their southern cousins as the evening rolls in on Saturday night. Some shuffling of the starting line-up led to some interesting matchups but the tries for the Pride came from a nice line by Kahn to go through under the posts, their second from a well fielded cross field bomb and the last was a delicious intercept that was taken for 60 metres, showing they can and will score from anywhere.
Who to Watch:
This match will feature four good props in Sheldon Powe-Hobbs and William Bugden for the Pride, while Sam Hoare and Corey Jensen will be the bookends for the Blackhawks. With the Blackhawks coming off a disappointing loss it will most likely fall to the forwards to put in the extra effort to give them some drive. Ty Williams, whilst he was a winger, knows that this will be the case and will be making sure whomever lines up in the pack are more than ready for the contest.
How They Will Win It:
The Blackhawks need to remember how to play 80 minutes. With one of the more experienced and balanced squads they present more weapons than the Pride, but have not had results go their way in recent games. This contest will require them to not rest on their easy wins and start piling on the score. A loss in this round may well see players potentially on the outer and the same may go with some others involved with the side.
For the Pride, it will come down to playing smart football and trying to eliminate errors, so as not to give the Blackhawks any easy territory. With a very good fullback and a strong right hand side, they could look to carry their winning momentum over for a second week. This game is definitely winnable, and the challenge will be to get on top of their more favoured opponents early.
The Blackhawks would have had a hard week on the paddock after dropping 18 points in the last 20. Wolfe would have been making sure that they were focussed on completing sets and holding on to the ball. The Pride, will be happy to have spent the week at home and will be ready to face up to whatever the Blackhawks will want to throw at them. Still favour the Blackhawks but this could be closer than expected by many.
