Central Queensland Capras vs Wynnum Manly Seagulls

Wynnum kept their finals hopes alive with a fine away win over the Central Capras on Saturday evening.

A 15 minute second half hat trick to Salesi Funaki was the turning point in the game after the home side had scored first and took a 14-12 half time lead to the break. The two sides had traded the lead in the first half, with the Capras first to score. Three of the four Saturday games had seen the losing side score first.

The above mentioned hat trick took the score from 14-12 to the Capras to 30-14 to the Seagulls and swung the game to the visitors with 10 minutes to go. A Capras try not long after threatened to make for an interesting finish, but Wynnum had the final say, and got the two competition points they needed.

Tries: Jeriah Goodrich (16m), William Brimson (29m), Salesi Funaki (53m), Salesi Funaki (58m), Salesi Funaki (68m), Jack Goodsell (78m)
Goals: Paora Kemp 6/6 Conv

Tries: Ken Tofilau (12m), Vic Halfpenny (32m), Chanel Seigafo (37m), Maipele Morseau (71m)
Goals: Tony Tumusa 1/4 Conv

The Central Capras welcome the Wynnum Seagulls in Saturday’s final game, and are looking to break a 4 game losing run. Central, currently third last, were right in the game in Port Moresby last weekend until a Stargroth Amean hat trick in the last 10 minutes took the game away from them.

They face a Wynnum side who are small losing run of two games, last weekend’s loss to Souths Logan a lot more respectable than the thrashing Mackay handed out at Wynnum two rounds ago.

With the Seagulls still a mathematical chance of making the finals, they will need to keep getting the 2 points or start planning for holidays in September.
