Mackay Cutters vs Central Queensland Capras

A high scoring match in Mackay between the Cutters and the Capras saw 11 tries and 10 different try scorers and a 38-20 win for the Cutters which sees them still a mathematical chance for finals, although unlikely.

The Cutters were in control for most of the game having established a 10-0 lead by the 10th minute. The Capras chipped away at Mackay’s lead but everytime they scored the Cutters put on another, or even two tries in response.

Mackay held a 22-10 advantage at the break, and the two teams continued to trade tries in the second half, but the Cutters always seemed to have upper hand. Jack Joass, the only multiple try scorer notched up 18 points for the Cutters.

Mackay can still make the finals, whilst Central are hovering just the one point above the bottom two sides.

Tries: Andrew Davey (4m), Braden Uele (10m), Yamba Bowie (20m), Johnny Faletagoa’i (34m), Aaron Booth (54m), Jack Joass (65m), Nathan Saumalu (79m)
Goals: Jack Joass 5/7 Conv

Tries: Tony Tumusa (12m), Nathan Bassani (38m), Maipele Morseau (61m), Oliver Percy (76m)
Goals: Tony Tumusa 2/4 Conv

Mackay Cutters probably lost their chance to play finals football last weekend when they went down to the Tigers in Brisbane, but the five point gap is not a ridiculous mountain to climb, but to do so will need to beat their rival Central Queensland side the Capras.

The Cutters were on a good run before last weekend, and the 34-0 loss to Easts will have taken the wind out of their sails, but they have a great record against the teams lower than them and should inflict more pain on the Rockhampton based Capras this weekend.

Central Capras haven’t been too far away in a lot of games this season, but still find themselves just one point above last spot. The Capras have had some good results from home in 2017, a draw against Townsville being a highlight, and this will be their shortest road trip of the year at just over 300 kilometres.
