Tweed Heads Seagulls vs Burleigh Bears

The final Gold Coast showdown of 2017 went the way of the first with a Burleigh Bears win.

A game that saw both sides score five tries, it was the Bears’ Jamal Fogarty who made the difference with the goal kicking as converted all five of his attempts against the Seagulls’ one.

The returning Jamal Fogarty was highly involved throughout, and was the difference between the sides with a try and assists, given the Titans plenty of depth in the halves. He was pivotal to another part of the game too, as he was sin binned late on for a professional foul which allowed the Tweed Heads Seagulls to make a late charge. They only got within 8 points, but with more luck on the conversions would have seen a much more interesting for the Bears.

Tweed Heads remain last, equal of points with the Northern Pride. Burleigh are like a lot of team still hoping for a final miracle.

The weekend rounds off with a classic Gold Coast rivalry between the Burleigh Bears and Tweed Heads Seagulls.

It looked as if these two teams would have an exclusive battle for the wooden spoon earlier in the season, but both have made  a little progress in the middle part of the season. Tweed Heads have had wins over Redcliffe and the Hunters in Port Moresby, and just three weeks ago the Bears flogged Ipswich 44-0.

Whilst Tweed Heads are still last, and with a poor -291 points difference, they could make the race to avoid last very interesting if they win. Including for the Bears who are currently just 2 points ahead of the Seagulls.

The Bears on paper look to have the goods, with some good Titans fringe players, the most noteworthy being Jamal Fogarty who has returned to the scene of much success last season.
