Today it was announced Blake Austin would be leaving the club at the end of this season and heading to our rivals Wests Tigers.
It’s amazing to think that just a year ago it was reported that Penrith splashed out up to $700,000 to keep Blake Austin at the club after only playing two NRL games. How times have changed.
Where did it all go wrong? A player with plenty of potential who loved the Panthers club and spoke passionately about his team. A local junior from the Doonside club. How many times have we had local juniors leave our club and become better players elsewhere?
Injuries and team selection have got the better of Blake who represented our fine club fifteen times in two years.
Blake Austin took time out to speak to me after a trial match Windsor played in Ipswich last year. It was quite clear that Blake was grounded and was keen to know about you and not make it about himself.
We can only wish Blake Austin the best at his new club.
I am extremely greatful for what penrith has done for myself and my young family. Thank you to all the fans for the support.
