Key Players

Anthony Minichiello (Italy)

Anthony Minichiello comes into the World Cup on a high after captaining the Sydney Roosters to NRL Premiership glory.  Fourteen years and 275 games later, he represents Italy at this World Cup along with brother Mark.  His experience will be a calming factor in a side likely to field some non-major competition players.  He’ll be well supported by Anthony Laffranchi, Aiden Guerra and Kade Snowden.

Danny Brough (Scotland)

Danny Brough leads the Scots into battle.  He was awarded Super League’s Man of Steel in 2013 and will need to use all of his experience to lead this relatively inexperienced International side.

Jorge Taufua (Tonga)

Jorge Taufua is one of the leading wingers in the National Rugby League having scored twenty-nine tries in forty-nine matches for the Manly Sea-Eagles.  If he and inside centre Konrad Hurrell get enough ball, they could run through Scotland and Italy.

Italy off the back of some experienced NRL and Super League players surprised England in a warm up match prior to the Cup.  They should give Tonga a run for their money in the first stage of the group before they face the three teams in Group D (Wales, Cook Islands and United States).  Scotland will face early elimination with the experience of Italy and the power of Tonga to prove too much.
