Sharkey’s Fantasy League hints – Fullback and Wingers

First of before we get into this blog a big congratulations to the Cowboys for taking out the first ever NRL 9’s competition. It truly was a spectacular event to watch for the fans and the players seemed to enjoy the format.

Now onto the position of Wing/Fullbacks in Fantasy. My golden rule in picking this position is to not pick up wingers and just stick with the fullbacks as they generally score better. I don’t mind picking up a winger at minimum price to pick up some cash if they are starting. But the only problem with that is you don’t want a Lachlan Maranta or Anthony Don sitting on your non playing reserves like many of us had at one stage of last year, as these players may come into your team as your lowest scoring reserve if you have a player in your starting team that gets ruled out late.

Onto picking your starting three in this position.  The three players I have picked are Sam Tomkins ($280,400). Tomkins is very cheap for the talent he expresses and you could already see through watching the nines he will link up well with Johnson. Some might doubt him on not playing in the NRL before, but with the price he is I am prepared to take the risk.

Josh Dugan ($445,500) is another player in my team. Dugan’s price might put a few people off him, but for me Dugan is just a fantasy gun and he proved that last year with very high scores with a team that was poor in attack. The signings of Gareth Widdop and Sam Williams should give the Dragons a lot more attacking chances and should improve Dugan’s points even more.

The final player in my team is Ben Barba ($283,500), Barba is a player I still have a bit of concern on though at the moment. As we are still unsure whether he will play in the halves or at fullback. He is in my team though at the moment because we all know of his attacking ability which converts into great fantasy points. Barba is also at a cheap price for a player of his quality.

Other good fantasy fullbacks include:
Jarryd Hayne – $343,400
Michael Gordan – $336,900
Greg Inglis – $394,400
Anthony Milford – $310,100

Onto the reserves, my first reserve will be whoever gets the number one spot for the cowboys after the injury of Lachlan Coote. Right now I have Zac Santo ($107,000) in the spot thinking he will get the spot but this will change if someone else gets it.

My second reserve is Tyrone Phillips ($107,000) again hoping he gets the number one spot over Sam Perrett. At the moment I don’t think he will get it for round 1, but if they are struggling in attack after a couple of rounds don’t be surprised to see Hasler make some changes at the back.

Good luck with your team, not long to go till season kick off now. This weekend will be the last of the trials so make sure you have a good look at players you are looking at.
