Dragons’ Player Involved in Wollongong Altercation

St George Illawarra player Craig Garvey has allegedly been involved in an incident at Wollongong nightspot Hotel Illawarra on Thursday night.

No charges have been laid at this stage, but the Illawarra Mercury is reporting that Garvey said “You’re being a smart arse, I’ll knock you the f— out” before hitting 26-year-old Christopher Allen with a flurry of punches and placing him in a choker hold.

Mr Allan had been at the venue with a friend, James Stimson, for around half an hour when a man, identified as Garvey, approached him. A photo allegedly taken at the venue, appeared on Dragons’ hooker Mitch Reins’ Instagram account on Friday morning before it was later removed. The photo shows Rein with Garvey and Dragons National Youth Competition player Yaw Kiti Glymin.

This afternoon the Dragons released the following statement: “The St George Illawarra Dragons have been made aware of an alleged incident involving a Dragons player in Wollongong last night and the club is presently investigating the circumstances and has advised the NRL Integrity Unit accordingly.” The incident is an unwanted headache for under pressure Head Coach Steve Price with their round one clash against the Wests Tigers just 9 days away.
