Match Review

A confident Parramatta side withstood a late Cronulla come back to win the Johnny Mannah Cup and continue their successful 2014 season. Cronulla’s poor defensive display and a lack of creativity in attack saw them slump to a disappointing 42-24 defeat.

The Eels were on the board after just two minutes as try scoring machine Semi Radradra crossed to give Parramatta an early 4-0 lead.

Cronulla hit back seven minutes later and through a successful Michael Gordon conversion took the lead.

The Sharks extended their lead in impressive style moments later as Wade Graham showed pure skill to chip a Gordon kick on and chase down the ball to score the Sharks second try of the night.

Jarryd Hayne scored an unbelievable individual try after twenty minutes to put the Eels back within two points.

A Chris Sandow chip and chase saw the Eels take a once sizable lead from Cronulla and a Ken Sio try moments before the half time break saw the Eels end the half ahead of the Sharks 22-12.

Parramatta started the second half as they had finished the first with a well-constructed four pointer.

Paul Gallen showed pure strength and determination to score in the 56th minute and give Cronulla a chance of producing a comeback.

A Willie Tonga intercept try gave the Eels some breathing space however a late Michael Gordon try kept the Sharks in the game.

Cronulla’s fight back was good but not good enough as Parramatta raced away to score another two tries in the last ten minutes of the match to record a 42-24 victory.
