How do the British Rugby League Fans View State of Origin?

Arguably the biggest game of the rugby league calendar is upon us as we all gear up for State of Origin game one, but is it as popular over here in the UK?

Within my group of friends it certainly is as we all don the colours of the state we have adopted, which in most cases is New South Wales, and we get out the BBQ and beers to celebrate the start of the greatest head to head battle within the greatest sport there is.

Me and my friends started this tradition three years ago and have been looking forward to every Origin match up ever since as the performances you see from those in blue or maroon is the best you’re likely to see. This is a game on a different level to all others, some have tried to reach the level Origin demands and have failed while others have become legends.

Now that we have Premier Sports giving us access to every single game in every single round of the NRL, State of Origin is likely to hit a new high in terms of UK interest. Now all rugby league fans have the chance to see for themselves why the NRL is considered the best competition around and the majority will be ringing in sick on the morning of game one.

It is hard to imagine how anyone wouldn’t be looking forward to seeing Queensland and New South Wales go head to head in the 100th Origin game and I for one will be sat in a blues vest and will be enjoying a nice cold beer while those two lock horns once again.

The fact is that rugby league is not be the most popular sport in the UK by a long way but for those who do understand how brilliant this sport is then State of Origin is the pinnacle of the rugby league year.
