Blake Ferguson’s registration blocked by the NRL

On the final day of the National Rugby League transfer window, Sydney Roosters application to register former Cronulla Sharks and Canberra Raiders back Blake Ferguson has been rejected.

Ferguson joined the Roosters recently in a community role and it was believed at the time that he would join the Roosters in 2015.  With Michael Jennings’ rehabilitation from a back problem likely to keep him out until round 21, Ferugson would have been handy as the Roosters aim for back to back Premierships.

It appears yesterday’s sacking of Todd Carney by the Sharks and Todd Greenberg’s comments about taking a tough stance on bad behaviour may have worked against Ferguson.  The National Rugby League are set to face another request from the Roosters for the start of 2015 to sign the former New South Wales Origin player.

In other Roosters news, hooker Jake Friend was rewarded for his efforts with a three year extension at the Bondi club.  Former Knight Scott Dureau and Cronulla Shark’s Nathan Stapleton have joined the Roosters for the rest of 2014, with Tautau Moga moving to North Queensland effective immediately.
