Sharks Snare Promising Dragons Junior

The Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks have signed St George Illawarra Dragons Holden Cup star Jackson Bird to a two year deal.

The 19-year-old, has been the driving force behind the Dragons’ charge to the 2014 preliminary final and is a highly touted player who can play in the forwards or in the backs. He has already represented NSW in under 15’s, 16’s and 18’s before turning out in the NSW under 20’s team this year.

Bird played for the Berkley Eagles in the local Wollongong competition before progressing through the Illawarra Steelers junior representative teams and broke into the Dragons’ Holden Cup team in 2013.

“He is an outstanding talent, which is shown by his extensive junior representative background,” Sharks Football Manager Darren Mooney told the club website.

Mooney believed Bird would be able to make the transition from the NYC to the NRL and would benefit from being around senior Sharks players including NSW Origin stars Paul Gallen and Luke Lewis.
