Dragons Announce Trial Against Mackay Cutters
St George Illawarra’s packed pre-season schedule just got a little busier with the announcement of a trial match against Intrust Super Cup side the Mackay Cutters on Saturday, January 31, 2015.
The trial, to be played at Mackay Stadium, Mackay, will be a chance for those players not selected in the Dragons’ Dick Smith Auckland Nines squad to impress head coach Paul McGregor ahead of the 2015 season.
“The upcoming trial against the Mackay Cutters will provide those players not named in the NRL Auckland Nines squad the chance to still play in what will be a physically challenging encounter,” McGregor told the Dragons’ website.
“It will also serve as an opportunity for the coaching staff to gauge where each player is at in their respective pre-season preparations while also providing a solid platform for our preparations in both the Charity Shield and World Club Series.”
As well as the trial against the Cutters and the Dick Smith Auckland Nines, the Dragons are scheduled to take on the South Sydney Rabbitohs at ANZ Stadium in the Charity Shield match on February 7.
They then head to the UK for their World Club Challenge match against the Warrington Wolves at the Halliwell Jones Stadium on Friday, February 20.
