Here’s our look at the 2015 Key Signings for North Queensland Cowboys. The defending Nines champions have been quiet in the transfer market picking up a few unwanted Brisbane Broncos stars as they look to make the Grand Final for the first time in ten years.
1. Ben Hannant
Ben Hannat had an unhappy 2014 at the Brisbane Broncos where the veteran prop was dropped by Anthony Griffin despite being one of their best at that stage of the competition. A move to the Cowboys is likely to see him starting at prop alongside Matt Scott with James Tamou potentially to fill the second row void left by Newcastle-bound Tariq Sims. Hannant’s experience could see the Cowboys go one step further in 2015.
2. Jake Granville
Jake Granville also leaves Red Hill looking for a new opportunity at the Townsville club. He’s been squeezed out of the Broncos with Andrew McCullough developing into an eighty minute player over the past couple of seasons. Granville is quick out of dummy half and there’s no doubt he can get his team on the front foot. But it won’t be easy to get in the starting seventeen with Ray Thompson’s ability to play in the halves and back-up Rory Kostjaysn a better option for Paul Green.
3. Kelepi Tanginoa
North Queensland have come up with a smart recruitment in Kelepi Tanginoa from the Parramatta Eels on a two year deal. This is a fantastic opportunity for the soon to be twenty-one year old to learn his trade in a strong forward pack led by Matt Scott and James Tamou. Tanginoa has represented New South Wales at Under 20’s level last year and has thirteen National Rugby League games under his belt. Expect him to get a game or two for the Cowboys especially during the representative period with their forward pack set to be decimated.
