Charity Shield Review: South Sydney Rabbitohs 12 St George Illawarra Dragons 12

The South Sydney Rabbitohs and St George Illawarra Dragons have played out a 12-all draw in the 2015 Charity Shield, in front of 16,820 fans at ANZ Stadium in Sydney.

With both sides giving plenty of youngsters a go, it was one of the veterans, Benji Marshall, who opened the scoring in the 25th minute. Gareth Widdop converted to give his side a 6-0 lead which they took into half time.

Dragons winger Jaosn Nightingale went close to scoring early in the second half but was denied and it wasn’t until the 55th minute that further points were added, again to the Dragons.

A neat kick by Marshall was gathered in by Eto Nabuli who tapped it back for Charly Runciman to score out wide. Widdop’s conversion made it 12-0.

The Rabbitohs hit back in the 67th minute with a long range try after a Marshall pass was intercepted. Sam Manulelua was the try scorer and Keary converted to make it 12-6.

With just 4 minutes left in the match Chris Grevsmuhl crashed over for the Rabbitohs and Keary’s conversion tied the game up at 12-all.

South Sydney Rabbitohs 12 (Manulelua, Grevsmuhl tries; Keary 2/2) drew with St George Illawarra Dragons 12 (Marshall, Runciman tries; Widdop 2/2) at ANZ Stadium.
