The Wests Tigers have today released the following statement regarding 19-year-old forward Matthew Lodge following an incident on January 11.
“Wests Tigers have today imposed sanctions upon Matthew Lodge following an incident on Sunday, January 11.
The Club has found Lodge’s actions unacceptable and in breach of our protocols and standards.
The sanctions include:
– Lodge has been stood down from our Round 2 game against St George Illawarra;
– Previously, Lodge was stood down from the Club’s pre-season trial match against Parramatta in Alice Springs, the NRL Auckland Nines tournament and a week of training; and
– Lodge has been fined $10,000 ($5,000 of which is suspended)
The NRL Integrity Unit has monitored this matter since it arose.
The Club will make no further comment.”
The St Patricks Blacktown junior rose through the ranks with the Penrith Panthers NYC team in 2012 before switching to the Melbourne Storm NYC team in 2013 and 2014. He joined the Tigers midway through the 2014 season and went on to play 5 NRL games.
