Tomkins Out For 6 Weeks

The New Zealand Warriors have been dealt a massive blow with playmaker and fullback Sam Tomkins ruled out for 6 weeks with a partial tear of his posterior cruciate ligament.

Tomkins left the field early in the second half of the Warriors’ 29-16 win over the Parramatta Eels on Saturday and is not expected back until round 9. It is expected his place in the side will be taken by Tuimolala Lolohe.

Warriors coach Andrew McFadden remained upbeat about the injury to one of his stars.

“The outcome is a lot better than it could have been,” Warriors coach Andrew McFadden told the clubs’ website.

“Sam will rehab the injury and should be available again in a few weeks. Obviously it’s a setback being without a player of his quality but it’s also a big opportunity for Tui (Lolohea).”

“He’s already had a full game at fullback against the Knights and he played there for another 30 minutes on Saturday. He’s a player with special ability and we have great confidence in him.”
