A fast and furious game with plenty of ball movement and errors this afternoon at Robina Stadium on the Gold Coast. We also saw the the first appearance of a female touch judge at NRL level, Kasey Badger. An early try in the 7th minute by Waqa Blake and converted by Matt Moylan put the Panthers in front. In the 16th minute, Titans’ William Zillman goes over following a Kayne Elgey grubber. With the conversion unsuccessful, the Panthers retain the lead 6-4. The 26th minute saw a James Segeyaro forty-twenty attempt saved by Titans winger Anthony Don. Soon after, Elgey sends Hoffman over for his first try in Titans colours. Conversion successful by Aidan Sezer, Titans take the lead 10-6. Going into half time, statistics favoured Penrith, however the scoreboard showed differently.
Opening the second half was a 46th minute controversial no try call against the Panthers for a knock on. Ball handling errors from both sides caused each team to waste opportunities to put points on the board. The 60th minute becomes an exciting moment for Titans fans as a kick on the last tackle is batted back into play by the Panthers, straight into the arms of Zillman, who takes off before an ankle tap from Segeyaro stops him in his tracks, but is still able to get the ball away. A penalty for holding down Titans’ Beau Falloon in the play the ball, gets Penrith’s Isaah Yeo ten minutes in the bin and Sezer a kick from right in front, extending the Titans’ lead to 12-6. Minutes later a similar penalty again given to the Titans pushes them out to a 14-6 lead. The game starts opening up for the Titans in the 68th minute with a converted try to James Roberts. In the 71st minute Moylan loses the ball just out from the line, ruining any chances of a Penrith comeback. Sezer kicks on the fifth tackle and Hoffman comes flying through tired defence to score his second try of the day with five minutes to go. Sezer converts, 26-6. An eighty metre run from Zillman in the final minute of the game sets him up for his second try of the day also, confirming a convincing win for the Titans. Greg Bird, converts to make the final score 32-6, a nice finish for Bird’s 100th Titans club game.
