Hull KR bring in Greenwood on loan

Wigan Warriors prop James Greenwood has joined Hull KR on loan until the end of the season.

The 23 year-old has gone straight into Chris Chester’s 19-man squad for the trip to Headingley to face Super League leaders Leeds Rhinos on Friday night.

Rovers have been forced to recruit a forward with Mitch Allgood, Adam Walker, Graeme Horne, Greg Burke and Dane Tilse all sidelined through injury.

Chester said of Greenwood; “James has come through a very good system at Wigan and he’s highly rated within the club and the game.

“He’s a tough young kid who will bring a real physical presence out on the field.”

He continued, “We’re delighted to have him on board and I can’t thank Wigan enough for allowing us to borrow his services.”
James, who is the elder brother of St Helens’ Joe Greenwood, has featured just once for the Warriors this season.
Wigan’s director of rugby, Kris Radlinski, said;

“When we were approached by Chris Chester, (coach) Shaun Wane and I agreed that this was a great opportunity for James to get some game time and some continuity rather than him not knowing where he is playing every week.

“Loan opportunities like this in Super League are few and far between and, although the dual-registration option has worked well for us, playing consistently at Super League level will be better for James in the long run.”
