Season to Date

The Newcastle Knights jumped out of the blocks to start the 2015, going on a four game winning streak, before the wheels feel off their season. They have now plummeted to lowly 14th on the ladder, far from the summit they found themselves at early in the season.

The loss of both playmakers hasn’t helped their cause, Mullen succumbing to a toe injury since round 8, while Roberts more recently injuring his ankle in the round 12 loss to the Warriors. They have fallen victim to some close encounters against Parramatta, New Zealand and the Cowboys. The worry was the high scoring nature of these affairs, showing the steel in defence is lacking.

Coach Rick Stone must be wondering what went wrong, with his return to the top job at Newcastle starting so well. The character of the squad from the mining town will now be shown.

Finals Bound?

It looks uphill to make the finals from here for the Knights. They have a few more weeks without Mullen and a couple more than that with no Roberts. They will be assisted during that time via some bye weeks, which will help rest up their aching bodies. They must harden up their defence if they are to get close. On a positive note, they are still just two wins from the eight.
